TOMORROW, TOMORROW, AND TOMORROW- GABRIELLE ZEVIN

When Sam Mauser catches a glimpse of Sadie Green at a crowded Cambridge subway station one winter morning, he is taken back to the brief friendship the two held as children. Their unique spark is instantly reignited as the two bond over a shared passion: creating and playing video games. Spanned over three decades, Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow is a multilayered novel about the highs and lows of friendship, falling in–and out of–love, fame and creativity, miscommunication, and success and failure. Ultimately it's an atypical love story that communicates our craving for connection and the harsh realities that accompany love.

While both characters often come across as irritating and immature, they come off as real; Zevin's writing depicts Sam and Sadie's lives as raw and honest, portraying human nature in a unique, beautifully devastating reality. This book was an often frustrating read, but that's the magic of this story: it reminds you that life's not that easy for everyone to reflect comfort. The characters are a fresh breath of air, accurately depicting human growth and the imperfections of human relationships. In a world where platonic relationships are often overlooked, this story is a beautiful reminder that not all love stories are romantic.

As someone with a scarce technical game development background, I did enjoy this novel more than expected; however, I got the vibe that it was trying too hard to be part of the modern "woke culture" rather than in portraying relatable and complexly nuanced characters on occasion, which didn't always feel organic.

I'm still moved by Sam and Sadie's story today, tomorrow, and every day.

The story is as beautiful as the cover. 4 stars.
